Life...The Maze
I like talking problems. Life is like a maze with it's twists and turns and if you know what your goals are, what your purpose is, than you can make your way though the noise and clutter that life brings, make your way through the maze and toward your goals and purpose.
Talking to someone who knows you well can clear away the clutter and remind you of what you want for yourself and if you are clear, the maze becomes clear again. You can then get yourself back on the right track, and toward want you want.
If you are aimless and unclear about what you want your life to be, than your entire life is that maze. You are trapped within it, without a way out and without a purpose. Your life becomes consumed by what your day brings and when you are a chronic pain sufferer that is not always good. Flexibility is important with chronic pain, we do have to go with the flow and listen to our bodies. If you are goal driven when we have moments of clarity there is a purpose.
Being unclear about what you want almost ensures you will spin your wheels because you don't have a clear picture of what you want for yourself therefore you won't do the work it takes to move on.
Problem after problem, or distraction after distraction, will constantly be in front of you if it is not on a defined path. Once you decide what it is you really want then it is easier to ignore or bypass what is taking you in the wrong direction.
You might ask how this applies to chronic pain? Well, it really does apply in a big way. If you are aimless, your pain will always be in control. If you have purpose and goals the pain will slow you down, distract you and try to get you off track, but you will ultimately still be in control. In the back of your mind the goal/purpose will be there. When you get a glimmer of peace from pain it can be easy to rest, just rest. If, however you have a goal, you will use that time to move toward it. It will make you feel good to have accomplished something and your self esteem will get a much needed shot. Depression stands at the door of all chronic pain suffers and this is one very effective way to fight it.
So think about your life before pain. Think about it after pain. Be realistic, choose what you have needlessly let go of that could still be in your life, implement it today and start working toward those goals when your pain
You are stronger than the pain, you can do this!
