Barry challenged me to go further today. I answered by saying I didn't even do Physio yesterday. To which he quickly reminded me of the fact that walking was more important anyway. Not one to walk away from a challenge, pardon the pun, I kept walking. We reached Lu Lu's. It took quite a while, I won't win any speed records but it really felt good. Now for it to be a mile, I had to walk home, which I wasn't sure I could. We stopped again in the park to rest up and to see if Barry needed to get the car to pick me up. No, I decided I'm going to do this, and I did. It is now six weeks post surgery and generally people can do this unaided at six weeks. Considering my complicated spinal response to the surgery. I think I can be proud of this accomplishment. It means my balance and stamina is coming back.
I have been given two ice packs, a cold drink and been put to bed to write as I like to call it. Barry says "mandatory bed rest for at least one hour." It doesn't have to be mandatory I'm quite happy to do it.
What will be a real accomplishment, is when Barry and I can walk together to Lu Lu's for one of their delicious Pizzas and a beer and walk home unaided. I have every reason to believe that day is coming.
