Day 73. Cause for Celebration.

Today I have to write about satisfaction. As I sit here today both of my girls have secured research positions in their fields of studies. Nothing is more satisfying as a mother then to see your children make a difference in the world.

Raising children is hard work, it demands we give it our all. There are lots of easy ways out, but most of us resist the urge to go for them. We see the investment in front of us and we put everything we have into it.

Today is one of those days when I get to reap the benefits.

Meghan, our youngest is about to enter third year at University of Guelph's Marine Biology program in the fall. While looking for a summer position she saw a fantastic opportunity at Laurentian University in Sudbury. She applied, and surprised herself that she got her dream position. It is directly related to her field of study as she will be doing research on fish. She packed herself up found a sublet in Sudbury and moved there all within one week. She handled all the arrangements, packing and drove herself there. The maturity and organization that took made us all proud of how she handled it. Today was her first day. We couldn't be prouder.

Jerri, our eldest has been interviewing for what she calls her first "big girl" job for the last six weeks. She has had four interviews for the same job. It is in a research lab at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. The process was long and although exciting it was hard to watch as her parents. She has never wanted anything more. Today she got the call she has been waiting for. She got the job!

Life is full of ups and downs and when there are ups like these Barry and I love to celebrate them. Our kids are doing well. Their hard work has helped them find something in life they are truly passionate about. The work they are doing makes a real difference in the world and satisfies their passion for science.

The more I live, the more reason I see to celebrate every chance we get. Times like this when things come together are precious and to be appreciated.

It is fuel for our lives. When we have the presence of mind to stop, appreciate and celebrate the good in our lives; it gives us the strength and commitment to get though the times of challenge we all have.

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate - Oprah Winfrey
